Overview of the Law

Street racing is considered one of the most serious traffic offences in Québec. Under the Highway Safety Code, it is strictly prohibited to drive a vehicle in a race or speed competition with another vehicle on a public road. This applies even if there is no bet, prize, or money involved.

  • 100 km/h sur les autoroutes
  • 90 km/h sur les autoroutes en béton ou en asphalte
  • 70 km/h sur les routes en gravier
  • 50 km/h en agglomération

The only exception is for officially authorized rallies that meet strict safety standards approved by the government. Any other form of racing on public roads is illegal.
Participation — whether as a driver or an organizer — is treated as a serious and deliberate violation of public safety laws.

Zorro Ticket carefully reviews every detail of your case to find inconsistencies or procedural errors. Common defense strategies include:

Challenging Officer Interpretation

Police or witnesses may misinterpret overtaking or lane changes as racing behavior.

Questioning Officer Procedure

We examine whether the situation truly involved a race or simply coincidental speeding or parallel driving.

Using Video or Data Evidence

Dashcam footage, GPS data, or telemetry logs can clarify speed, distance, and lack of coordination with other vehicles.

Negotiating a Reduced Offence

Where evidence allows, charges may be reduced to a lesser infraction, avoiding severe penalties and demerit points.
