Overview of the Law

Under sections 328–329 of Quebec’s Highway Safety Code, every driver must comply with the posted speed limits. The law sets out general limits such as:

  • 100 km/h on autoroutes
  • 90 km/h on concrete or asphalt highways
  • 70 km/h on gravel roads
  • 50 km/h in built-up areas

The Minister of Transport may also adjust these limits based on traffic, weather, or safety conditions. In all cases, exceeding the posted limit constitutes a speeding offence, regardless of the driver’s experience or familiarity with the road.

Penalties and
Consequences

The penalty for speeding depends on how much the driver exceeds the limit. Typical consequences include:

Common Defense Strategies

Zorro Ticket carefully reviews every detail of your case to find inconsistencies or procedural errors. Common defense strategies include:

Layer_1

Challenging Radar or LIDAR Accuracy

We verify calibration records, officer training, and proper equipment use to ensure accurate readings.

Layer_1

Questioning Officer Procedure

If the officer didn’t follow proper protocol or lacked clear visibility, this can create reasonable doubt.

Layer_1

Examining Road and Environmental Conditions

Poor visibility, faded signage, or unclear speed postings may weaken the prosecution’s case.

Layer_1

Negotiating Reduced Charges

When appropriate, we seek to reduce the recorded speed or replace the charge with a lesser offence carrying fewer or no demerit points.
